Step 11 – We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for the knowledge of His will and the power to carry it out.
I love this step! This step is the cross in action NOW! My conscious contact with God began the day He reached down to me through the death and resurrection of Christ. He first came to me. I did not make my way to Him. He came and found me. Even now I don’t have to earn or devote my way to Him.
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus… Let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water, let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised. – Hebrews 10:19 & 22
I can draw near NOW! No manipulation, no formula, no rituals, no devotion can make me any closer than I already am. His work did it!
- He changed my heart to a heart that receives and wants to follow Him. (Hebrews 8:6-13; Ezekiel 36:25-28)
- He cleaned my conscience from evil and feeling guilty all the time. (Hebrews 10:22)
- He gave me His Spirit to lead me. (Romans 8:12-14)
- He continually desires me to be aware of the depths of His love for me and His world! (Ephesians 3:14-21)
I am okay! He wants me to know this throughout the day when the enemy tells me lies that make me feel separated from Him. Yet the Lord wants me to be more conscious of His work for me than my weaknesses, sins and failures! Conscious contact is enjoying Him – NOW!
