Religion cannot achieve it; earthly pleasures cannot match it; psychology fails to reproduce it – let alone explain it; oppression can’t squash it, and confusion can’t overcome it. There’s no comparison to this incredible “gift of God” which Jesus offers. The gift is actually a Person, the Holy Spirit of God. He changes everything, and wants to live inside us to help us through life’s ups and downs! (John 4:10; 14:17 & 15:26)
Jesus offered the Holy Spirit to a searching, thirsty woman. Did you ever get spiritually thirsty? Jesus compared the Spirit to a fountain of water within her bringing untold benefits in this life and the next:
Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life. – John 4:14
Water comforts. Water satisfies. Nourishing us to the cellular level, water rejuvenates us all over. The Holy Spirit does the same, especially in our deserts!
My cancer battle was over 18 years ago, yet I still remember the paralyzing anxiety. God constantly reminded me of 2 Timothy 1:7, that He had given me a “Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind – not a spirit of fear.” I needed power to endure the beat down of treatments and pain. I needed to soak up His love to forgive those who let me down during my battle, including the doctor who missed my diagnosis. I needed a sound mind to focus on the moment and God’s goodness.
The Holy Spirit is the gift of God which keeps on giving, abundantly … and eternally! He is a huge key to our victory in any battle. If you’ve never done it, please invite Jesus to be your Savior! Then, lean on the Holy Spirit to keep you full to overflowing!
Lord, thanks for Your incredible gift! Remind me to walk in the resources of Your Spirit, not my own!
