In the midst of sickness, especially that scary word, cancer, our bodies remind us of our weaknesses, our boundaries, our need. “He makes me lie down in green pastures,” but they don’t seem so green!
Walking in a season of illness brings one face to face with all kinds of grief. Stories fill our head of what we’re missing or going to miss. All the “things” life is about. So why and how does He make us lie down in the green grass?
Jesus says He is the bread of LIFE! Is the green grass the place where we taste and see HE actually feeds us? And find HE is actually enough? His boundaries in sickness set us face to face to Him, His care, His reality!
- Our lists disappear.
- Our busyness stops.
- The world goes on…
Then He actually stops us and visits with us in our pain. He stops our world to tell us:
- He is with us.
- He cares.
- He sees.
“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried. He was pierced through for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:4-5.
That’s why He says when we visit the sick, we visit Him (Matthew 25:36).
