What difference does Easter and Jesus’ Resurrection make in our lives today? After He rose, Jesus promised to send the gift of Easter, His Holy Spirit, to dwell and live with and in us. He even said, “It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Helper (the Holy Spirit) will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you” (John 16:7).
Consider three reasons why the gift of the Holy Spirit is such a huge advantage to those who believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord!
1) The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Counselor, and Comforter!
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you” (John 14:26).
The Holy Spirit reminds us not only of Jesus’ teaching, but His deep love for us during hard times! He calms our fears and fill us with comfort and hope! He totally understands. What an advantage the Holy Spirit was to me during my battle with Stage IV metastatic melanoma cancer!
2) The Holy Spirit is our Truth and Guide
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come” (John 16:13)
The Holy Spirit guides us on how to apply God’s truth and promises. He enables us to live confidently rather than in fear and uncertainty from the enemies’ lies.

3) The Holy Spirit gives us power to live a free, holy life.
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:16-23).
There is amazing freedom in living in the holiness of the Holy Spirit. He leads us in to what we really wish for in life – love, joy, peace, etc. We tap into His holiness by inviting Him to live in and through us, as Paul describes in Galatians 2:20! We can lean on Him and His mighty resurrection power He placed within us.
The gift of the Holy Spirit comes only by grace through faith, we cannot earn or deserve Him. In the same way, we lean on Jesus’ death on the cross for forgiveness of all our sin.
