Does Focus on God’s Healing Promises Give False Hope?

Absolutely not! If God makes promises of physical healing, He must want us to get our hopes up! Consider what I believe are clear promises to heal our bodies in this life in James 5:14-18, Mark 16:17-18, 3 John 1:2, and Matthew 8:16-17. Surely God knows many will be totally disappointed if they or their loved one are not healed, and He has patiently and lovingly walked billions through this heartbreak. In addition, there are more promises in which God might not heal in this life (more in future FAQs). Still, we absolutely should not explain away these healing promises to help manage His reputation. As my wife Terri says, “We don’t need to take care of God” by balancing His Words! In fact, one of Jesus’ most common disappointments was folks not believing He could – or would heal!

When I first started sharing my miraculous Stage IV melanoma cancer healing, a cancer radiologist told me I should not be giving advanced cancer patients hope for physical healing. Instead I should be preparing them for heaven. I said, “Well why can’t I do both?” Personally, I’d rather die with hope, than live without it! Even from a human standpoint, hope plays a definite role in healing of our bodies. The “placebo effect” accounts for over 15% of people getting well – with fake medicine!

King David stressed the importance of hope in all our battles, “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.” – Psalm 27:13. Hope on!
