Tool #2 – The Word of Their Testimony
Our words make a huge difference toward our sense of well-being. Even when I don’t “feel” their truth I would rather “repeat God’s Words after Him” than wallow in negativity! I’m not saying to deny the difficulty of harsh circumstances which I had during my cancer battle. David, Job, and Jesus told God about their circumstances. I’m saying we should ALSO tell our circumstances and the devil, about our mighty God! This is “the word of our testimony.”

We’re in an ongoing study of Revelation 12:10-11 on how to overcome the devil whom we all constantly battle. Last time in this study, we covered standing on “the blood of the Lamb,” Jesus’ death for us. A second component to overcoming is “the word of our testimony.”
Here’s how to leverage your words to your advantage during your cancer battle:
- Fill up and unleash His words into “the conversation.” His words are not a wishing well, but a joyous declaration of reality. There are many ways to take in and express the facts with yourself and others in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
- Use words for their soothing power. Speak well of God, yourself, and ALL others! God says this matters in Proverbs 16:24, “Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
- Tell yourself the truth about God and your abilities. Jesus acknowledged our utter weakness, that we “can do nothing without Him” (John 15:5), but He also provides power to overcome, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Believe it and SAY it!
- Guard your soul from bitterness and discouragement through words. “He who guards his mouth and his tongue, guards his soul from troubles” (Proverbs 21:23). Defend your territory!
Tell your circumstances and the devil about our mighty God!
