Tool #1 – The Blood of the Lamb
The same Bible which celebrates the beauty and love of Jesus warns of an invisible enemy, the devil. Called “the accuser of the brethren” in Revelation 12:10, the devil specializes in anxiety, fear, doubt, and shame. He attacks more when we’re weak, as he did me during my Stage IV cancer battle. So how do we defeat him and overcome the darkness?
Revelation 12:11 gives us three tools, “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” We will explore each tool in separate posts. The first tool is “the blood of the Lamb,” referring to Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross for our sin. Jesus’ blood does many things and here are three top benefits:
1) Jesus’ blood grants us “legal” authority to resist the devil!
The blood of Christ allows God to justly free us from sin, as 1 John 1:7 says, “The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” His blood grants us the legal authority to stand squeaky clean before God and to fend off fear and the devil, as “fear involves punishment” (1 John 4:8). Our punishment fell entirely on Christ, so whom or what shall we fear? God is definitely not punishing you with cancer or any other hard trials. So don’t listen when the devil brings up past sins. Hebrews 10:7 says, God “remembers our sin no more!”
2) Jesus’ blood settles our infinite value!
God alone is able to calculate our value, and to win us He gave His most valued possession as an offering for our sin, His Son Jesus! “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10). Propitiation means “satisfaction.” He appraised our value forever when He stated He is satisfied by Jesus’ substitutionary death for us. Wow, He “exchanged” His Son for us, and calls us His children now! So don’t ever listen to devaluing thoughts as they are NEVER from God.
3) Jesus’ blood establishes us firmly under grace!
Because of Jesus’ blood, we can relate to God solely on grace, His undeserved blessings, which is really good for us! You see no one deserves God’s blessing because the Bible is clear, “No one is good, not even one” (Romans 3:10). We don’t want to be “under law,” as the law only reveals our sinfulness apart from Christ. The blood of Jesus paves the way to maximum freedom in this life, and to heaven in the next! (More on how to get to heaven here)!
Thank You, Lord, for the blood of Christ which gives us authority to overcome the darkness of the devil and his tools, fear and shame, so that we can stand firm and victorious in our battles!
